MASTER "The Human Machine" - First Impression

The first ever review of MASTER's upcoming Death Metal grime-fest "The Human Machine" came in from the recently resurrected legendary Metal Maniacs magazine, courtesy of Brian Krasman:

Photobucket

Death metal elder statesmen Master haven't exactly pulled punches during their nearly three decades together. Like, did you see the cover of 2007's "Slaves to Society"? Yeah.

But in an era where so much "death metal" is overproduced, sanitized or mixed with something that ends in "core", it's nice to have something as ugly and nasty as Master. It'll put hair on your chest. It'll scare all the kiddies in the Suicide Silence shirts. Hell, it'll damn near leave them kicking and screaming their way back to Hot Topic for some dolled-up, faux-frightening comfort. Master's latest effort "The Human Machine" (out on Pulverised) is more of the veiny, bruising bloodbaths we've come to expect from these fellows, but with a little extra crust to boot!

The mix of classic death metal with good, honest thrashing immediately greets listeners on Master's 10th studio offering and sets it apart from most in its genre. There's not an effort to be pristine or polished, as teeth are ground and skin is pierced right from the get go as the title track sets the crushing tone. "It's What Your Country Can Do for You" lets frontman/bassist Paul Speckmann release his cynicism and frustration, as he insists, "You are a machine working for the government," which is just one accusation in a furious tirade that makes your average street corner picketer sound like a Kindergartener.

"Suppress Free Thinking" isn't terribly hard to decipher from its title, and its fiery drum attack courtesy of Zdenek Pradlovsky leaves welts; "Worship the Sun" sounds like a companion piece of sorts, at least musically, to Slayer's classic track "Raining Blood"; and "The Lack of Space" even hints at a High on Fire/Motorheads stoner groove.

No angular haircuts, no clean vocals, no tight ladies jeans. Master is death metal's seamy underbelly, a blast of wickedness from the genre's past that isn't terribly pleasing to look at, but whose idea was it to smooth out the appearance anyway? "The Human Machine" is a monster here to restore the idea that the world's most grotesque and horrifying subject matter has a place to unfurl itself and those of us who indulge can do so without worrying if a hair's out of place.

SALEM Drummer Talks About New Album, Full Album Streaming At AOL's Noisecreep

Photobucket

"Playing God And Other Short Stories", the long anticipated upcoming new full-length from legendary Israeli extreme metallers SALEM, is currently streaming in its entirety via Noisecreep / AOL Music!

Noisecreep.com recently also caught up with SALEM skinsman Nir Nakav on an exclusive interview, giving a more detailed insight on the meaning behind each song on "Playing God And Other Short Stories".

Below are some of the excerpts from the interview:

Salem drummer Nir told Noiscreep that his Israeli band's thrashy new album, 'Playing God and Other Short Stories,' is a "collection of stories ... that are not necessarily related to each other. The only quality they have in common is that they were put through the same processor, the Salem digestive system and, therefore, carry the same sound signature."

Ah, the Salem digestive system! That means the tunes come out as sometimes thrashy, sometimes doomy, yet always corrosive metal. Nir described the music as having a "good tension and release balance, since we aren't going for the extreme at all times." His perspective is that a song needs to be constructed like a movie, "with blast sections being countered by slower sections. Extremity for the sake of extremity gets boring. You need to give your listeners a chance to breathe every now and then. It's like being an expert interrogator, and violence is not always the answer."

Nir walked us through a handful of songs, which you can use as your guide when enjoying the tracks. "'Drums of the Dead' is Salem's soundtrack to a Dark Horse comic book of the same name," he said of the percussive track. "In the story, Abe Sapien goes on his first solo mission without Hellboy to look into reported paranormal activities that are taking place on a shipping route. We don't want to ruin the story, so go get 'BPRD Vol. 1,' put the CD on and have a blast."

Nir also revealed that the roaring, staccato 'Exodus' is like their version of the Bob Marley classic. "The Rastafaris use the biblical story of the ancient Hebrews struggle in Egypt to be released from slavery as a symbol for their own fight," he said. "One theory claims that King Solomon gave the Ark of the Covenant to the son of the Queen of Sheba, who was of African descent and one of his many wives. Another says that the Ark of the Covenant is buried somewhere amidst the mountain of Judea, and that the queen's son took a replica. The Ark is still buried or in exile. We thought it was time for us to reclaim our heritage. So here we are again, on the journey out of Egypt, Salem style."

'Downfall of Paris' is "a pretty bloody one," according to Nir. It also features female vocals. "It dates back to the French Revolution, but will be forever identified with the American Civil War. This tune's history is so rich, we could have had an entire article written about that alone. Let's just conclude our commentary about this song with Elson's [National Music of America, 1899] report: 'It was sung to many a scene of massacre and bloodshed; it was warbled and trilled out when the mob carried the head of the beautiful Princess de Lamballe, on a pike, through the streets of Paris, and thrust it up for the unhappy queen to look at.'"

Check out the record, along with an in-depth track-by-track breakdown from SALEM drummer Nir Nakav: http://www.noisecreep.com/2010/03/01/salem-playing-god-and-other-short-stories-album-stream/

The band's seventh studio album "Playing God And Other Short Stories" was recorded at Harold Studios in Israel and mastered by UE Nastasi at the prestigious Sterling Sound in NYC. "Playing God And Other Short Stories" includes a guest vocal appearance by At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg, (on “The Mark Of The Beast Part 1” and “The Mark Of The Beast Part 2”) as well as a cover of Bob Marley’s “Exodus" and will be released via Pulverised Records this spring.

SALEM - New Album Teaser Now Available & Noisecreep Feature Exclusive

Photobucket

Legendary Israeli Extreme Metallers SALEM, back with a stunning seventh full-length album entitled “Playing God And Other Short Stories”, has issued a new album trailer, which includes a few audio excerpts from the upcoming album.

View the “Playing God And Other Short Stories” video trailer below:

In other SALEM-related news, Noisecreep.com recently caught up with the band and asked a few questions about SALEM’s long-enduring history, internet promotion and why they think everyone has “become an Israeli since 9/11”:

Photobucket

Israeli metal band Salem have been around for over two decades, with their seventh release being 'Playing God.' Through it all, they've played to full houses, been featured on MTV's Headbanger's Ball and enjoyed plenty of press accolades. Yet they've never achieved a huge degree of success.

"It is very costly to send a band from Israel to tour Europe or the States. So exposure on a big scale has always been out of reach," Nir told Noisecreep. But the band wasn't resigned to be a 'locals only' act. "The Internet solved that problem," Nir continued. "Salem's MySpace page statistics show that over 40 percent of our visitors are North American. We believe there is a market for us anywhere in the world since Salem is up to international standards as far as our level of musicianship, performance and production are concerned."

Even though the band has a substantial -- relatively speaking -- North American following and fan base, Nir is firm about the fact that the band "could not have happened anywhere else in the world but Israel." The band's geographic origin is reflected in every element of the band's music and lyrics.

Nir also said, "Unfortunately, for the world, since 9/11, everyone has become an Israeli, in a sense. Living under constant threat has always been a way of life for us. It reflects in our lyrics, with lines like 'We keep dry under the rain of terror.' Now, terror has become an international issue. Most of Europe is in danger of losing its identity. Over 3,000 Americans did not make it home on Sept. 11, 2001. A month ago, Al-Qaeda tried to take down another airliner on its way to Detroit. Another 300 families could have experienced that loss. At this point, Salem doesn't represent Jewish Israeli views exclusively. I think it is safe to say that we represent the point of view of a sane Western civilization. Welcome to Salem."

Pulverised Records New Release - IN MOURNING "Monolith" OUT NOW!!!

...::: PULVERISED RECORDS Proudly Presents :::...

IN MOURNING – “Monolith”

Photobucket

OUT NOW!!!! (Europe)
16th February 2010 (USA)

Also available in Digital format on iTunes

Swedish melancholic Metallers IN MOURNING have far transcended above their predecessors with this intoxicating brand new full-length effort entitled “Monolith”.

Picking up right from where they left off with the highly successful debut “Shrouded Divine”, “Monolith” continues with the same approach but this is an entirely different beast, with far more accomplished musicianship and songwriting. The compelling performance on “Monolith” is way beyond words can describe; the throbbing sorrow and darkness have finally eclipsed!

Recorded, mixed and mastered at Black Lounge Studio, Sweden (Carnal Forge, Scar Symmetry, Steel Attack, etc) with Scar Symmetry axe-man Jonas Kjellgren, and with the perfectly fitting style of introspect artist Travis Smith (Nevermore, Opeth, Strapping Young Lad, King Diamond, etc), “Monolith” is sonically and aesthetically lamenting, and will without a doubt be one of the pinnacle albums in 2010.

“Sweden have a new contender in the melancholic death metal ring! 'Monolith' is an evolution from the band’s previous release formulating the best elements of Katatonia, Amon Amarth and Hypocrisy to create a musical landscape that is as upsetting as it is uplifting.” – Metal Hammer UK

“A good mix of growls and clean vocals, some delicate acoustic arrangements ingrained with Scandinavian folk music, and a portion of well-dosed epic-ness.” – Terrorizer Magazine UK

MASTER Completes New Album, In Mixing Mode

Photobucket

Iconic Death Metal legends MASTER have recently completed recording their upcoming latest full-length offering entitled “The Human Machine”.
The mixing process is still currently underway, and an expected date for the album mastering should begin on 30th of December 2009.

States MASTER founder / frontman Paul Speckmann: “MASTER are in the studio mixing, and mastering soon. Things are going very well at the moment. We hope to finish this in the next few days. I am very happy with the way things have turned out and it will be killer to finally have a CD released once again on a professional label such as Pulverised. Things look very good on the horizon with Brazil and European tours coming soon. See you on the road my friends.”

Comments Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin: “Paul sent me 2 blistering tracks from the upcoming new MASTER album last night and I was absolutely blown away by how much authentic brutality that they still retain, coming from a band with an almost 30-year history. Nothing much has changed and if not, this is probably more old-school, ferocious and even more Death Metal than their previous few efforts. It is exactly how fans of MASTER would imagine the new album to be, and no one will be disappointed!”

MASTER are scheduled for a Brazilian tour in mid-January 2010, followed by 2 back-to-back European tours in support of the upcoming new album “The Human Machine”. More details and announcement will be made soon on the European tours.

SALEM Signs With Pulverised Records!

Photobucket

SALEM, the legendary and most enduring Israeli Extreme Metal band in Israel's Rock / Metal history ever, has now officially joined the ranks of Pulverised Records!!

SALEM achieved international success throughout the years with their consistency in belting out albums and has remained one of the hardest working bands coming from Israel, with each new album more powerful and stronger than the previous.

Some of the highlights of their career include the Colin Richardson-produced album “A Moment Of Silence” that was released in 1998 and more recently, appearing on main stage at the prestigious Hellfest Festival in 2007, alongside bands such as Machine Head, Slayer, Blind Guardian, Within Temptation, etc.

SALEM’s latest and 7th full-length album will be aptly entitled “Playing God And Other Short Stories”, with the band now deep in the midst of the mixing process.

Israel's premier metal act SALEM, who recently left Season Of Mist, released the following statement to the local and international press: "We are thrilled to join the Pulverised team. The label is very attentive to our needs and puts us as a top priority act. It is something we have been yearning for years. We feel confident that together we can achieve goals that have alluded us in the past few years. The band's 7th album "Playing God" is scheduled to be released mid 2010 and will include 12 scorching new tracks from the band, one of which is the head-turning cover of Bob Marley's "Exodus".

Comments Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin: “Personally, I have been a SALEM fan for a good number of years and this is definitely a dream coming true, to be able to work hand-in-hand with one of my favourite bands. The SALEM guys are all about pure dedication, as well as very meticulous and professional in every aspect. We are very anxious to see what new grounds SALEM will break this time with the new album!”

SALEM recently took a brand new promo photo-shoot in conjunction with the concept of the upcoming album “Playing God And Other Short Stories”, with the entire band donning ‘superhero costumes'.

SALEM skinsman Nir Nakav explained: "The opening track on the new album, "Drums of the Dead" is inspired by a Hellboy graphic story by the same name. It is the first time that Abe Sapien goes on a solo mission and in the promo picture I am wearing a shirt that carries the insignia of his bureau. Remaining true to form, the other guys in the band took on characters that "Play God"; Superman with his ability to reverse time (that is why he can be seen in 3 different places at the same time on the promo shot) and the Punisher who kills evildoers. As the lyricist of Salem, I feel obligated to add that this album will mark the first time in the band's history that we are not touching on political subjects. The album texts are all inspired by either stories I read or movies I watched in the past couple of years. I think that after a quarter of century, it is important for a band to keep moving forwards, feel fresh, innovative and vibrant. I believe that once the album is out, the world will witness a tighter than ever band with a new twist."

Watch the 3-minute video footage from the recording sessions for the band's new album, "Playing God And Other Short Stories" below. The clip includes the percussion session for the song "Drums of the Dead".

DEN SAAKALDTE Signs With Pulverised Records!

Photobucket

Pulverised Records is very pleased to announce the official signing of Norwegian Black Metallers DEN SAAKALDTE!

Consisting of some of Black Metal’s most notorious and prolific musicians and founded by main songwriter / guitarist Sykelig (ex-Gorgoroth session guitar player), DEN SAAKALDTE previously released the monumental debut “Øl, Mørke og Depresjon” (which translates to "Beer, Darkness And Depression”) and also in early 2009 with the remarkably depressive full-length effort “All Hail Pessimism”, that eventually instituted the band a lot of positive rave reviews and exceptional attention worldwide.

Comments DEN SAAKALDTE’s founder / guitar player Mikael Sykelig: “We are proud to announce that DEN SAAKALDTE’s new record label is to be Pulverised Records. In our opinion, Pulverised is currently one of the most upcoming labels you can find. They work hard for their bands, and just seeing the names that they have on their roster is enough to know that their goals, and standards, are set very high indeed. We are delighted that our new album will be released on Pulverised, especially at a time when the label is going from strength to strength, and very much look forward to working closely with them.”

Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin states: “It was quite a pleasant surprise when the email came in from Mikael, and he was wondering if there would be a possibility of us working together for their new album. DEN SAAKALDTE very quickly established their reputation in the scene in just a period of a few years since their formation, and it was obvious that the band had already became a force to be reckoned with. There was not a single doubt about signing DEN SAAKALDTE and an agreement was worked out almost immediately. We have absolute confidence that the band will outdo themselves and create yet another phenomenal follow-up full-length effort, filled with utter anguish and despondency.”

DEN SAAKALDTE's forthcoming album and first with Pulverised Records, will be entitled as "Kapittel II: Faen i Helvete", scheduled for release Fall of 2010.

DEN SAAKALDTE recently announced a line-up change in the ranks, with drummer Jarle "Uruz" Byberg (ex-Shining, ex-Urgehal) leaving the band. Further details on the replacement of the new drummer will be made soon.

In other DEN SAAKALDTE-related news, the band will be part of the "Skandinavisk Pessimisme Omringer Europa Tour”, touring alongside Troll and Sargeist from March 2010 onwards.

DEN SAAKALDTE will also make their appearance in the next year’s edition of the “Kings Of Black Metal Festival 2010” happening on 10th of April 2010 and “Barther Metal Open Air 2010” on 20th of August 2010. Last but not least, the re-release of “Øl, Mørke og Depresjon” on Digipak CD and Gatefold LP and also the "All Hail Pessimism” on limited Gatefold Double LP are soon to be released.

MORBUS CHRON Signs With Pulverised Records!

Photobucket

Once again from the festering slime of Stockholm, Sweden, comes a band (dead)icated to the early 90’s zombie and gore themes that made Death Metal a worldwide phenomenon; Pulverised Records welcomes MORBUS CHRON, one of the rawest young talents worshipping this particular old style of pure Death Metal!

Strictly sticking to the tradition of demo cassette tapes, MORBUS CHRON previously released a self-titled 4-track demo tape, which attracted favorable responses everywhere. MORBUS CHRON is now preparing to enter the studio, for what will become their debut full-length album.

Pulverised Records label manager Roy Yeo comments: “I was amazed by MORBUS CHRON when I first heard them, it was almost unbelievable that the band is so young and they could capture the essence of the old Death Metal style. Influences like Autopsy and early Entombed are easily spotted in the songs, but there is just a certain fire and enthusiasm coming from MORBUS CHRON that cannot be described and we are very much looking forward to the debut album!”

States MORBUS CHRON lead singer / guitar player Robert “Robba” Andersson: “We're as excited as we are when robbing graves! Feels fucking great! Like opening a can of ravioli, but even better dude. What can we say? It'll sound disgusting and putrid with just a tiny dose of groovyness. New songs are on the way and it sounds like Autop... Ehm, Morbus! If you're into the old way, you’re into our way. Total fuckin' Death!”

In other MORBUS CHRON-related news, the band will make their appearance at the upcoming “Resurrected In Festering Slime Festival”, happening at the legendary Kafé 44 from the 6th – 7th November 2009.

Photobucket

Pulverised Records welcomes the latest old-school Thrash addition to the roster: Hungarian Thrashers MORBID CARNAGE!

MORBID CANARGE recently completed their first full-length album “Night Assassins”, seven tracks of raw, intense and catchy Thrash Metal in the worship of the 80’s golden years.

The street release date for “Night Assassins” will be announce soon.

Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin states: “MORBID CARNAGE definitely know their Thrash Metal; all the necessary ingredients to make a good old-fashion Thrash song work effectively and the overall vibe on “Night Assassins” is just totally immense. This is a straight-forward, no-holds-barred pure onslaught of retro-Thrash at its finest!"

Comments MORBID CARNAGE’s bass player Janos Horvath (aka Necrofaust): “It is our honour to be signed to Pulverised Records as the label has really some great bands and most importantly, a very positive attitude. BALFOR Signs With Pulverised Records!‏

Photobucket

Pulverised Records welcomes Ukrainian Black Metallers BALFOR!

Describing their music as ‘Barbaric Black Metal’, that explores themes from their countries’ warrior past, the band had recently completed their debut full-length album entitled “Barbaric Blood”.

“Barbaric Blood” will be slated for a street release date sometime in the first quarter of 2010. More details and any further announcements will be made soon.

Comments Pulverised Records A&R manager Calvin: “BALFOR are one of those bands that has pretty much the whole package; top-class musicianship and excellent songwriting prowess that perfectly describes their brand of Darkened Black Metal. It is our pleasure to be working with BALFOR on their debut album, so expect nothing short of killer headbanging riffs blending together with the atmospheric feel that is ever so essential in Black Metal.”

BALFOR lead singer / guitarist Thorgeir states: "We are really excited to be working with a label with the reputation and experience of Pulverised Records for the release of our first full-length album "Barbaric Blood", and we are very much looking forward to our collaboration. As a band, BALFOR always gives 101% of itself in terms of commitment and this is what we will bring to Pulverised."

The band recently recruited second guitar player Agnarr to the ranks of BALFOR.

In an official press statement: “Agnarr is a highly trained and skilled guitarist, with a real instinct for music, so he got the feel of what we wanted straight away”, said the frontman. “When we were recording material for our new album, we realised that the fuller sound we had developed was going to need an additional guitarist in order for us to be able to reproduce it live. It also takes some of the pressure off me on stage. Singing and playing at the same time is one thing, but when you want to give the audience a less static show, and communicate with them at the same time, it doesn’t always work too well, so a second guitarist is the perfect solution for us”.

Two new tracks “Behold My Hate” and “The Perfect Fire”, taken off from the upcoming debut album, are now available on the BALFOR Official Myspace for streaming.

IRON LAMB Signs With Pulverised Records!

Photobucket

One of Sweden’s newest, scruffiest and back-to-the-roots Punk band IRON LAMB, consisting of some of Extreme Metal’s most prominent figures in the scene, is now officially a part of the Pulverised Records family!

Fronted by singer Grga Lindström (ex-Repugnant) this all-star line-up also consists of Johan Wallin of General Surgery on guitars, Thomas Daun of Dismember on drums and “Swedish Death Metal Book” author Daniel Ekeroth, also of Tyrant and ex-Insision fame on bass.

IRON LAMB is slated to record their debut untitled full-length and should see the light of day in the first quarter of 2010.

Comments Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin: “IRON LAMB is probably one of the most unlikely kind of band to be on our roster, but their infectious brand of filthrock and the straight-up Motorhead-esque riffs is absolutely something that we missed and loved from the old days. So naturally, there was definitely no question about it when the band approached us to work with them on the debut full-length album!”

In the press statement by IRON LAMB axe-man Johan Wallin: "Iron Lamb are stoked on doing our first full-length on Pulverised Records! We are currently working on the songs, and will be ready to record during the first few months of 2010. Expect a whole lot of dubious preaching scumbag rock ‘n roll!"

DESULTORY Preparing To Enter Studio For New Album

Photobucket

The legendary reunited Swedish Death Metallers DESULTORY will begin recording for the yet-untitled brand new album in November. The new album will mark their first band effort in almost 14 years, since their last full-length album “Swallow The Snake” in 1996.

Taking care of the production duties will be Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio, Sweden (Watain, In Battle, Nominon, etc).

DESULTORY lead guitar player Håkan Morberg commented on how the new album is shaping up to be:

"The songs are a mix of fast and heavy melodic death metal with dark and melancholic lyrics, all in the true spirit of Desultory. The album will be a logical continuation of “Into Eternity” and “Bitterness” and will be a strong bridge linking the past to the present."

MASTER - New Album Artwork and Album Title Announced

Photobucket

Legendary long-running Death Metal veterans MASTER has announced their upcoming tenth full-length album as “The Human Machine”.

The band has also tapped in Israeli artist Eliran Kantor (Aghora, To-Mera, GWAR, Sickening Horror, etc) to work on the visual aspects of “The Human Machine”, whom was also recently responsible for Testament’s “Formation Of Damnation” album cover.

The album artwork for “The Human Machine” can be viewed below.

MASTER are scheduled to start working on "The Human Machine" after completing a series of upcoming Mexican and South American tours and the band will be expected to enter the studio in December 2009.

>>> MASTER - "The Human Machine" <<<

In other MASTER-related news, UK’s Terrorizer Magazine recently hooked up with Death Metal icon Paul Speckmann and asked a few questions about how the new MASTER album was progressing:

Freshly signed to Pulverised, a label with a proud pedigree of extreme metal releases packaged and promoted with pride, death metal original MASTER are working on their tenth full-length. If Chuck Schuldiner was the godfather of death metal, vocalist/bassist PAUL SPECKMAN was the biological father overlooked in a messy divorce. The man himself took Terrorizer's questions as he preps his latest orthodox offering.

Photobucket

You've been more active with Master this decade than perhaps you have the previous two put together, are you feeling more inspired?

“I always find inspiration in the crazy world around us. But, yes things have picked up ever since I moved to Europe back in 2000. It has always seemed to me that Europeans have always been staunch supporters of metal in general and of course Master fall into the category.”

How has moving to the Czech Republic helped? Was it good to step outside of the scene you'd come up through?

“Well, when I left the USA to join Krabathor, the scene in the US had become stagnant at least for Master. I mean even in the early days, there wasn't much support for the group. People have always been more interested in the copycats. Stepping out of the American scene was the best move I could have ever have made. Because of this I tour Europe, America and other countries repeatedly year after year.”
How are things working out with Pulverised?

“It's a bit early in the game to tell, but so far, so good, so what! The label are doing all they can at the moment. Things will pick up of course after the album is recorded and released. I have complete faith in Pulverised. I can certainly see that they are a workhorse to be reckoned with. The label are continually growing and I am glad to get the chance to be a part of it.”

What stage are you at with the album?

“The artist Eliran Kantor has just finished the cover for the new CD called 'The Human Machine'. It is definitely a killer piece of artwork. Mr Kantor is currently working on the completion of the back cover as well as the entire layout. I look forward to see its completion very soon. As for the recording, this will happen sometime later in the year. This is why I was a bit surprised to hear from the mighty Terrorizer. You realise I am sure, that this title for your magazine comes from a track of the same name on the first Master demo, which also went on to inspire Terrorizer, the band featuring Jesse Pintado, RIP brother.

“I have written about ten tracks and guitarist Aleš Nejezchleba has about six tracks to offer me at the moment for the new CD. We will get together after the next tours of Mexico and South America with the drummer Pradlovsky and begin the arrangements for the CD. This is really the first time where we are taking our time on an album. But expect a killer production on this one of course.”

How's it going to sound? Do you have any surprises lined up for us?

“It will sound like Master always do: killer and aggressive. I suppose you'll have to wait and see. It will definitely be an original Master album. We never change for the trends as most of the successful scene does. Master still play the same original style we always has since the incarnation of the band in 1983. It certainly surprises me that many of the bands today jump on the current trends, and have success with this. For me there is nothing like the original bands.”

Any details you can share?

“The CD will be called 'The Human Machine' as I said earlier on in the interview. People have become slaves to the greater machine called the government in every city of the world and it's a real pity to see this bullshit. Big brother gets stronger with every waking moment and soon freedom for the masses will be a thing of the past as George Orwell predicted in 1984. Soon the masses will have a rebellion or it's finished.”

When are you going to make it back over to the UK?

“Funny you should mention that. We played the UK this year in the spring to small crowds. The best show was in Aberdeen and it was quite clear that for the London show and Leeds, the promotion was at the bare minimum. I cannot understand why anyone puts on a show and refuses to promote it. It seems like a waste of energy to me, but this is the metal business around the world. Many promoters are lazy pigs and the bands suffer unless you're a big name. Master are certainly an underground original band and sometimes this has its pitfalls.”

Check out Master on Myspace and keep posted for news!

Six Feet Under Bassist Terry Butler To Replace Derrick Ramirez For OBLITERHATE Debut‏

Due to Derrick Ramirez’s (Dragonlord / ex-Testament) unavoidable hectic schedule, Terry Butler (Six Feet Under / ex-Death / ex-Massacre) will join the ranks of OBLITERHATE and has recently laid down all the bass tracks at John and Donald Tardy’s (Obituary) Redneck Studios for the upcoming debut album “Blessing In Disgust”.

Photobucket

Comments Terry Butler: “It's a great honor to be part of something with musicians of this caliber. I would like to thank Calvin for offering me the chance to play bass for OBLITERHATE. He has written some amazing tunes for this release!! Describing the music I would have to say that it is very heavy and riffy. There is a good mix of Thrash and Death metal. The lead work is amazing, the drums are crushing and what else can I say - Dan Swanö on vocals!!!!

I had a lot of fun recording the bass for OBLITERHATE. The bass tracks were recorded at John and Donald Tardy's Studio - Redneck Studios. If anyone is looking to record I highly recommend using Redneck Studios!”

States OBLITERHATE guitar player Calvin Chiang: “Having such an amazing musician like Terry Butler to be involved in OBLITERHATE was EXACTLY what I needed for this band. Not only Terry had the solid groove nailed down to perfection, his work attitude towards this entire project was more than spectacular! Both of us spent several weeks discussing on the song structures and Terry treated the band like it was his own. He wanted to make sure he got every single note figured out before stepping into the studio. A true masterclass musician in every sense of the word!!! I would have no second thoughts to collaborate with Terry again if the opportunity arises in the future.

John Tardy (Obituary) was responsible for tracking Terry’s bass tracks at their very own Redneck Studios, and I would like to thank John for the total professionalism shown throughout the entire recording and also for the patience in sending over the edited bass tracks. The bass tracks that were laid down sound huge and monstrous! I am definitely very anxious to start working on the album again after a long delay.”

Dan Swanö (Nightingale / ex-Edge Of Sanity / ex-Bloodbath) – Vocals
Terry Butler (Six Feet Under / ex-Death / ex-Massacre) – Bass

IN MOURNING Signs With Pulverised Records!‏

Photobucket

Touted as one of the best newcomers in the Swedish Metal scene, we are very ecstatic to announce that melancholic metallers IN MOURNING will sign a 2-album deal with Pulverised Records. The band has commenced work on their still-untitled second album and will once again enter Black Lounge Studio (Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge, Steel Attack, etc) with producer / engineer Jonas Kjellgren taking care of all production duties.

IN MOURNING’s 2008 debut album “Shrouded Divine” naturally gained a massive amount of attention and also very positive responses worldwide with their brand of heart-wrenching melodic passages entwined with progressive elements but yet still retaining all the brutality of Death Metal aggression.

Comments label manager Roy: “When I came across their debut album, I really loved what I heard and knew that we had to have IN MOURNING under our roster as not many bands of this particular genre could fascinate me like how IN MOURNING did. It was the perfect timing when I found out that the band was just about to enter the studio to record their follow-up to “Shrouded Divine”. I quickly struck a deal with them and the rest is history. We are very excited to have them on our roster and cannot wait to hear how the new album will sound like.”

Comments the band: “Signing to Pulverised Records feels like a good ‘next step’ for the band, hopefully bringing our music out further to a broader audience. We are very pleased thatPulverised Records has given us this opportunity, and we think this will be a good collaboration. We are currently focusing hard on rehearsing and finishing up the material for our new album.Once again we will enter Black Lounge Studios with producer Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge). There wasn’t really any doubt when we were discussing studios, as we aremore than pleased with the work he did on our previous album ‘Shrouded Divine’. On August 22nd we will begin the recording of our new, so far untitled, album. For updates during the writing process, check our MySpace at: www.myspace.com/in_mourning

The Legendary MASTER Signs With Pulverised Records!‏

Photobucket

It is our greatest pleasure to welcome one of the pioneering and oldest bands in Death Metal history onto our roster: the legendary MASTER!!!

States A&R Manager Calvin: "MASTER was and is still truly an influential band and I would daringly assumed that a lot of the early Extreme Metal bands were somehow influenced by MASTER, but was probably never open and admitted widely. Paul Speckmann was really enthusiatic to join the Pulverised family and furthermore, very easy to work with. There were so many things that we have discussed and were definitely on the same page, so an album deal was struck in no time. We hope that with our support on the upcoming new album, it will be MASTER's most devastating and crushing album yet!"

Comments Paul Speckmann: “It's an honor and a pleasure to be signing with a real label like Pulverised Records. I really feel like this label will believe in MASTER like a label should. It's really been difficult to find a label that is willing to dedicate itself to a band like MASTER who incidentally has been surviving the underground since 1983. I certainly have confidence in Pulverised Records and hopefully we can bring the band along to the next level. Forget all the cheap imitators, there is only one MASTER consisting of Speckmann, Nejezchleba and Pradlovsky, so be forewarned. The soon to be recorded new CD will be as brutal as its predecessor. Look for speed, intensity and as always objective lyrical content. For myself, I certainly live through my music, it is certainly my muse.”

Speckmann and co. are set to commence work on the new material for a full-length album in August and the new album should be completed at the end of 2009. More details and announcements will be made.

MASTER will kick off their tour on 5th of June 2009 with 2 shows in Germany before proceeding for a 21-date American tour starting on 8th of July 2009 onwards.

DESULTORY Reforms And Back With A New Album!

Swedish Deathmasters DESULTORY Signs 2-Album Deal With Pulverised Records

Photobucket

From left to right: Klas Morberg, Håkan Morberg, Thomas Johnson and Johan Bohlin

It is with our immense pleasure to announce that we had dug up an old Swedish Death Metal gem from the late 80's and bring you the legendary DESULTORY! With 3 ridiculously under-rated albums (Into Eternity, Bitterness and Swallow The Snake respectively) under Metal Blade Records, the band was put to sleep indefinitely and was conjured back to life only recently. We are very eager to see what form of Death Metal disaster awaits us with this classic resurrection!!

The band comments: "We are very pleased to sign with Pulverised Records as they have a very good reputation here in Sweden. Professional guys and fans of the Death Metal scene, just as it should be. After our 3rd album in 1996, we put Desultory to sleep and went on to explore other musical directions.

But now, 13 years later, we are back again, we felt the need to create some new Death Metal and that it was time for Desultory to be reborn. The new material for the forthcoming record will be a touch of the old Desultory but mixed up with new influences. It will be hard, brutal and melodic.

Two lineup changes. Håkan Morberg is now playing lead guitar (before he was playing bass) and Jojje Bohlin is handling the bass. Still Klas Morberg on vox and guitar and Thomas Johnson smashing the drums.

We´re really looking forward to see you on tour or on a festival somewhere!"

US Thrash giants WHIPLASH in full force and Unborn Again!

Photobucket

...::: WHIPLASH signs with Pulverised Records :::...

Reactivated New Jersey metallers WHIPLASH have inked a worldwide deal with Pulverised Records. The band will enter the studio in early March to begin recording its sixth album, "Unborn Again", with guitarist/vocalist Tony Portaro handling the production duties. Co-producing the effort will be Harris Johns, who has previously worked with CORONER, HELLOWEEN, KREATOR, SEPULTURA, SODOM and VOIVOD, among many others. The band will also document the full recording session and edit the footage into a free bonus DVD.

Commented Portaro: "We are thrilled to be working with Calvin and everyone at Pulverised Records. Their enthusiasm surrounding the 'Unborn Again' project is unmatched by any of the labels that we have worked with in the past. It will also be my pleasure to work side by side with the Harris Johns and although the actual recording of 'Unborn Again' will not begin until March of 2009, we are eagerly anticipating mixing and mastering with him at Spiderhouse in April."

Added Pulverised label manager Calvin: "We are more than just honored to have the legendary WHIPLASH step foot into the Pulverised roster, and pre-production works have already commenced for the new album titled 'Unborn Again'. The band who once gave you such classics like the 1985 maiden album 'Power And Pain', the crushing 'Ticket To Mayhem' and the innovative 1990 release 'Insult To Injury' are back to set the hungry thrash maniacs on rampage!"

WHIPLASH will release a 25th-anniversary DVD in late 2009 entitled "25 Years Of Thrash". According to the group, the disc will feature "true stories that cover the band's history with Roadrunner Records and beyond, 1985-1990, 'Power And Pain', 'Ticket To Mayhem', 'Insult To Injury'; The Massacre years, 1996-1998, 'Cult Of One', 'Sit Stand Kneel Prey'; 'Thrashback'." It will also include rare concert footage, photos, interviews, backstage footage and much more. "25 Years Of Thrash" will also "take you back in time, hands on the mixing board in very raw setting as the band shares their experiences of the writing and recording of some of the greatest WHIPLASH albums released to date."

Portaro remained the pillar of the band while the lineup went through many changes over the course of their six full-length CDs, including "Cult Of One" in 1996 and "Sit Stand Kneel Prey" in 1997. During that time, drummer Joe Cangelosi supplied the drumming on "Cause For Conflict" for Germany's premier thrash band KREATOR, which was released in 1995. Portaro handled the guitar work for Billy Milano's M.O.D. on a European tour in early 1998 with drummer Tony Scaglione, inviting the return of the original WHIPLASH lineup for a reunion CD entitled "Thrashback".

WHIPLASH is a three-piece power trio hailing from New Jersey. The band was assembled back in 1984 when Tony Portaro and Tony Scaglione joined forces, recruited Tony Bono on bass and released their first CD, "Power and Pain", in 1985 on Roadrunner Records. The debut CD was followed up by their first live performance at Ruthie's in Berkley, California with POSSESSED and DEATH ANGEL.

WHIPLASH is:

Tony Portaro - Guitar / Vocals
Joe Cangelosi (ex-KREATOR) - Drums
Rich Day Bass (ex-PRIMAL SCREAM) - Bass

Pulverised Records welcomes the legendary ALGAION!

After a great long decade of silence, Swedish Melodic Black Metallers ALGAION is back to the fold, reunited and preparations of a new full-length album are underway.

Previously busy on his stint with other bands (Hypocrisy, Pain, etc) and also currently in Swedish Power Metal band Morifade, Mathias Kamijo decided that it was time to resurrect the ghost of ALGAION and brought it back to life in 2008 together with founding member Mårten Björkman.

New blood have since joined the ALGAION camp, with current members from Coporation 187 (Viktor Klint and Robert Eng contributing on guitars and drums respectively) and Tobias Leffler (previously in Vergelmer and N.C.O) on bass.

It is our great pleasure to have ALGAION join the ranks of the Pulverised Records roster; we are very excited and definitely looking forward to a great working releationship with such a veteran class act!

James Murphy completes guitar solo for OBLITERHATE, album details and tracklisting revealed

Legendary guitar extraordinaire / producer / studio engineer James Murphy has completed a guest guitar solo on the song entitled 'Dawn Of Extermination', which is tentatively the opening track for the OBLITERHATE debut album.

"I just got the guitar solos from James this week and this man delivers exactly what I need for this song. It was flawless and the solos just scream of James Murphy all over the place! It's got all the trademarks typical of James and I am extremely pleased with the outcome of the guitar solo. With James being one of my main influences, it was certainly a big dream come true! Need I even say more about James Murphy?
"Mirai Kawashima (Sigh, Necrophagia) executed 3 keyboard tracks for the album some months ago, namely 'The March Of Denouncement', 'Decimation Symphony' and 'Ensemble Of The Accursed'. Mirai is another mad genius whom I had the utmost pleasure of working with. Dan Swanö did some sick talking verses on 2 of the keyboard tracks and it's just amazing yet creepy as fuck!"
"Besides doing vocals on all the songs, Dan Swanö also contributed a spectacular guitar solo for 'Hell Crusade' and there is absolutely nothing this guy cannot do. I always have nothing but praises for Dan, and he truly deserves to be the legend that he is!" comments Calvin.

OBLITERHATE's debut album entitled 'Blessing In Disgust' will contain 9 songs and here is the final tracklisting:

1) The March Of Denouncement
2) Dawn Of Extermination
3) Monotheislaughter (Enthrone The Apocalypse)
4) Hell Crusade
5) Decimation Symphony
6) Impale Thy Divine
7) Swine Are Your Gods

Dan Swanö completes vocals for OBLITERHATE album

World renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Nightingale, ex-Bloodbath) has finished laying down the vocal tracks for the upcoming OBLITERHATE debut album. Recorded at Unisound Studio (Sweden) in just 2 weeks, Dan's contribution on the vocals for OBLITERHATE is the first time in more than a decade that he has done vocals for a full-length intense Death Metal album.

Comments Calvin: 'Dan is definitely one of the most down to earth and professional person I have ever worked with. He wasted no time in getting all the vocal tracks done and we all know how insanely busy he is. Once Dan got the lyrics from me, he did one track in just a few hours time and I can say that his Death Metal vocals have turned out to be even better than before! He kept getting better with each track and amazed me with how his vocal phrasings for each song have made the songs so much more enjoyable to listen to. I am really looking forward to get the OBLITERHATE album out as soon as possible!'
