REVIEWS
Behind The Veil Webzine January 2006 Review
RATING: 7,5/10

My friend Malcolm will probably like these guys a lot! I am sure that they will remind him of the years he had HELLBASTARD. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Opposition Party were influenced by HELLBASTARD. Anyway, the point is that this certain group mixes punk rock with thrash metal or someone more experienced than me might say that Opposition Party play crust music. Call it whatever you like, the truth is that the band with their album "Zombified" give you a good pump of adrenaline!!! The vocals sometimes reminded me of THE EXPLOITED and other times I had the impression that MOTORHEAD's Lemmy was behind the microphone. The 27 minutes of duration of this album might not be many, but I believe that it's proper for such a release. An album that doens't tire you, it keeps its substance and makes you listen to it again and again, especially if you are a fan of the music that Opposition Party play. The sad thing is that I only have the promo CD in my hands so I can't give you a clue on the lyrics of this album. I promise though to find out in a future interview with the band. My favourite songs from the album are: "Zombie", "Ever Wonder Why" and "Land Of Hope And Glory". (Nick "William_Kidd" Parastatidis)

SOD Magazine #22

RATING: 10 Fucking Skulls

Remember Sacred Reich, the killer 80's Thrash Metal outfit that combined political diatribes with brain-melting Thrash Metal riffs? Well, welcome to the chaos-driven world of Opposition Party, where outrage has a voice and that voice is fucking pissed-off. Combining elements of Hardcore and Thrash Metal with a jolting clarity of vision, Opposition Party has managed to craft a sound that is as unique as it is powerful and explosive. There's even a track entitled "Ignorance" which may or may not be a tip of the hat to the aforementioned Sacred Reich. One of the most enjoyable and punishing Thrash Metal albums I've heard in years, Zombified fucking KILLS!!! (David Horn)

Beowolf Productions & Treats From The Underground December 2005 Review
This is my first time hearing these guys & I like what I hear a lot. These guys are a mix of Death Metal & Speed Metal music. The music is played at a very fast paced & heavy as heel too. I like the fact that there is some cool grooves in the music as well. They have an almost old school Metal sound to their music as well. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Speed almost Death style that reminds me of the great Lemmy of MOTORHEAD a lot. If you were to take bands like MOTORHEAD, SODOM, DESTRUCTION, VENOM, EXHORDER & added some Death Metal, you'd get a good idea of what these guys have to offer. Get this one!!!

Behind The Veil Webzine December 2005 Review
RATING 7,5/10

It isn't so common to hear and review a release from a band that comes from Singapore. And imagine my surprise when this band has already had more than fifteen years of existence. Opposition Party comes from this country and "Zombified" is their latest album which was released through Pulverised Records. The band includes eleven songs on this album and almost half an hour of pure music. The interesting thing about them is the combination that they have achieved within their music. Opposition Party combines elements from punk and death metal music and the result is what you can listen to on "Zombified". Imagine a combination of THE EXPLOITED and HOLY MOSES and you will have the music from these crazy guys. Definitely when you hear it for the first time it might sound strange and weird but if you pay attention you will see that the band has worked hard on this and they have well structured songs. If you want to experiment with yourself you can hear their stuff. ( Antonis Maglaras)

Metal Storm
RATING: 8,5

When I opened the envelope that contained this CD and then saw the cover I thought “well, a zombie with demonic teeth and a jar with a brain and a mysterious substance? This band must be something like Melodic Death Metal ala Dark Tranquility” I couldn’t be more wrong my dear reader, when I pushed play in my stereo I found Thrash Metal at its oddest best.

This guys from Singapore used to play Punk apparently, Zombified has nothing to do with Punk except from a couple of drum patterns, but the overall music is one of the most aggressive ways to play Thrash Metal; to make an analogy lets use Anthrax, do you remember how this guys used to sound in their early days? They used to play with raw feelings and with a lot of musical strength, well Opposition Party is just like that but with better vocalizations, imagine a battering machine beating down buildings with people still inside…that’s how this album sounds like more o less.

Musically this band is very good actually, the riffing is catchy and the solos are complex (not long solos though, they should increase the length of their leads if you ask me) the drumming has punk patterns here and there but overall the drummer manages to increase the power in each track, then he finishes with one of the most crushing beats I’ve ever heard in Thrash Metal; the thing that impressed me the most was the bass-lines, the bass player has great power and awesome experience in this instrument, every single bass-line sounds really loud and supreme without drowning the other instruments. You should hear tracks like Ignorance or Brain Fucked to understand the actual power and strength of the bass.

Overall this is a good album, it’s good to see barely known bands releasing quality in their music, so if you are a Metal Thrashing Mad buy this album as soon as possible, you won’t regret it believe me.

Best Tracks: “Ignorance”, “Control Your Mind”, “Zombie” (Herzebeth)

Beat The Blizzard
RATING: 7/10

A“When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth” as if there's not enough zombies here already… Well, the initial analysis, which may very well be a correct one, comes loud and clear from the singer in OPPOSITION PARTY before hell breaks loose in the first song “Zombie” on their new album “Zombified”. Enough “zombie” stuff for now? Yeah, I guess so…

So, what about the music? It's not bad. Not at all. OPPOSITION PARTY is a hard-hitting and noisy three piece from Singapore (of all places in the world!) and their music is rough & fast & tight thrashy death/punk. And I got to admit that I almost fell off my chair when the vocalist started to sing right after what he said about the full-booked Hell on the opening track. The singer calls himself Francis Frightful and believe it or not; he sounds like a spitting image of Lemmy! And it sounds cool as (a overcrowded…) hell!

The music is different, though, but even here you can hear some Motorhead elements. Nothing strange about that since Motorhead by many, myself included, consider Lemmy's band more like a punk oriented rather than a metal band. OPPISITION PARTY is definitely a punk band oriented towards hard-core and thrash more than metal. It's a good band and their mixing of styles through different genres from thrash to punk topping with the Lemmy like vocals is not at all bad.
The playing is good and tight and sounds a bit dry letting all musical details come through nicely in an overall fine production.

Some details on “Zombified” that lasts a little more than 27 minutes, are catchy and fit in well with the rest of the songs, while others sound a bit odd and should probably have been put back in the drawer of rejected and useful ideas… (AJ Blisten)

The Metal Crypt
RATING: 4/5

Don't judge a book by its cover. It's difficult to avoid this sometimes fatal mistake. You see cover art like this one, you don't expect to hear some kick ass old school Thrash with some punk overtones. This is was Singapore's Opposition Party (as in the band, not politics) has to offer with Zombified. They used to play punk so it's not too surprising that there are small remnants of that era that still show up in their new direction. Even though their sound reminds me of mid-80s thrash, I found it difficult to really nail it. Think of a mix of early Anthrax with a bit of (early) Slayer and (early) Destruction. I've listened to this album quite a bit and my main complaint is that it's a bit on the short side, but then again that's not exactly abnormal for cacophonic thrash releases such as this one. The sound is neither too clean nor too garage-like - you can ear everything well, but at the same time they didn't go for an overpolished production (which in Thrash's case is never a good idea anyway.) Overall a very good thrash album that already makes me look forward to their next one, and hope it's at least as good as this. ( Michel Renaud)

Metal Covenant January 2006
RATING: 8.5/10

With roots in the punk and hardcore scene of the mid eighties, Singapore's Opposition Party still go strong. The band has been active releasing albums, tapes and demos since -87 and I think that they over all those years have been more and more drawn to the borders of metal, even though the influences come from eminent acts such as GBH, The Exploited and Broken Bones. For me, as for many other revolting kids of that time, it's very interesting as I grew up with stereo massacres as Lets Start A War Maggie with Exploited or why not City Babies Attack By Rats by GBH.

As Opposition Party say: It's Chaos. Zombified are a very catchy, straight and powerful kick in the ass for those who deserve it. I imagine that a record like this can be something for every metalhead that sooner or later understand and enjoy the sheer energy and stereophonic terror that bands like Driller Killer and Opposition Party mean to project. The rawness and energy from the old days of hardcore and punk together with the refining touch of booth metal and the death/thrash genre. The crossover concept is obvious and sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. I would say that it works extremely well in Opposition Party's case. I don't think it matters who you are, Zombified will summon aggressive thoughts. Land Of Hope And Glory is a good example of many great songs on this album, I don't think I share all the ideals and ideas that this band stands for but the multi language is the music. Everyone that wants to, understands good and heavy music whether you are to the left or to the right on the political scale.

The foundation of Zombified lays in the cool song writing, simple and catchy verses and refrains always kicking forward. Great solos, often very classical, almost heavy metal like. Fat arrangements on booth bass and guitar. The vocals from guitarist Francis Frightful are as aggressive and filled with anger as it should be in order to keep up with the music, and always backed up with the voice from guitarist Lee and bass player Kazz. Lay to these aspects the heaviness Opposition Party wield that outmanoeuvres many death metal bands of today. I have serious difficulties to find anything negative about this one. I keep on getting pretty cool vibes from it; aggression, violence and ignorance. Just listen to the third track Ignorance... Easily recommended. (Timmy Persson)
